You’re pretty sure you’re a good driver and you haven’t had any accidents or tickets, but your car insurance keeps going up and up every year at renewal. Everyday life is getting incredibly expensive, so increasing insurance rates are just not in the budget in some cases. There are ways you can easily save on your auto insurance so you don’t have to pay those consistently increasing rates. Here’s ten ways you can save on car insurance now.

Talk to your insurance broker

The best way to get a discount is to talk to your broker. You may have coverage that you don’t really need or have additions to your policy that don’t make sense. Call them to make sure the insurance you have is what you need.

Ask about bundles

Do you have your home insurance with the same company as your car insurance? If not, moving one policy to the same company could give you bundled discount, and that could save you a good amount of money.

Shop around

If you aren’t happy with your current insurance provider, there’s no harm in looking around. Call a couple other companies and just see what they would offer in terms of premiums.

Have an anti-theft device

For some insurance companies, they will offer savings if you have anti-theft devices in your vehicles. This means you are less likely to have a claim against your policy, which saves the insurance company money in the long run.

Change your deductible

If you have a low deductible, your premiums may be higher. Some companies will offer options in terms of what your deductible is and if you increase it you may see a decrease in premiums.

Think about carpooling

Your insurance policy will be partially based on how much you drive in that the more you drive, the more likely you’re going to be to have a claim against your policy. If you drive less, and carpool to work you may be able to decrease your insurance.

Think about using telematics

Some insurance companies will have an app, or other device, you can install that records your driving activities – like the speed you drive. If you use this device or app, the insurance company can see that you’re a safe driver and may offer a discount.

Remove coverage from older vehicles

If you drive an older vehicle, you may want to consider removing the collision coverage on it because it won’t be worth it to repair it if you’re in an accident. By law, you will still have coverage for liability damage done to another person’s vehicle but you can remove collision coverage from your own vehicle.

Keep a clean driving record

Your insurance will be partly based on the vehicle you drive and where you live, and what kind of driver you are. So while you may not be able to up and sell your vehicle to buy another one, you can do your best to keep your driving record clean.

Compare insurance before you buy a vehicle

If you are considering buying a new vehicle, call your insurance provider to see what premiums you’ll be looking at with each vehicle. Doing this before you commit to or purchase a vehicle could help you budget appropriately and then you are not stuck with the insurance premiums that come with that vehicle.
